The meaning of multimedia

You can do many things on the Internet. The fundamental principle of this world wide web is that you can get information on almost every topic you can imagine. But not only can you get multiple forms and quantities of data, but there is also the possibility of receiving it from many different perspectives. People call this concept multimedia. To understand what is behind this technical term, we should define it in advance, so it gets easier for everyone to know what people should consider when they talk about the Internet.

First of all, the term consists of two different elements. The first one is "multi" and the second is "media." Our aim is to learn what is behind these expressions and what does it mean when we combine those two.

"Multi" comes from Latin and means "many." It is as simple as that. Therefore, that prefix shows that there are many manifestations of the following expression.

"media" also has a Latin origin. It derives itself from the word "medium" which has two basic meanings. Used as an adjective, it says that a noun is in the middle of something. So it is some linguistic locator. If you use the word as a noun, then it is a mediator between two different positions. By the way, we often use that term when we talk about people who can communicate with ghosts, but that is just a fun fact. Another conception behind that word is that a medium is a way of communication between people so that they can inform themselves about ongoing events in our world. Because people nowadays want to know what is happening in our globalized world today, we often speak about the need for information. So everything that helps us with getting that needed information is a medium. The term "media" is just the Latin plural which has survived the shift from Latin to English. So in other words, a medium is an information portal which allows us to learn all the new happenings in our world, for example, politics or sports.

Now that we know the precise meanings of both expressions, it is time to put them together so that we can learn what is behind it. Putting together the "many" with the "information portal," we can guess that the fundamental principle behind this expression is the fact that there are many different ways of getting informed about new events and happenings in our social and political environment. In fact, it even goes beyond that. Multimedia is a concept that enables us to get information from all over the world to every topic we can imagine. So it is no wonder that this richness concerning information has led our society to become one that we can base upon knowledge and expertise.

But in what form comes this information usually? That is a question which we can answer very clearly. The way that we use most often to transmit information from one individual to another is written text. The reasons for that are quite numerous. We can access written material everytime we want, regardless when people wrote it. Especially in a world that has its economic and political foundations on a global interaction between communication partners, this is an advantage which you cannot neglect. An example illustrates the importance of that pretty well. Given the case there is a partnership between a German and an Australian company, they need to communicate about business plans or something like that. One huge problem is the different time zones they are situated. So one party must contact the other during the night, as it is then daytime in their time zone. Therefore, a phone call would not be the ideal solution to that. As a result, they send texts to each other, for example in the form of an email. So far so good.

One problem about written emails or messages remains: it takes a lot of time to write them. Compared to just having a phone call in which you can speak out all the things you want to say, you need some time to type your content in a written message. So you lose valuable time in that process which you could otherwise use to get done many other important things. There is, however, a solution to that problem. With the online transcription software provided by Trint, these are problems of the past because it can translate spoken information to written contents without the need to write it down. That way, you can save valuable time and use it for all your other projects you desire and can have success!
